Producers Scott Sanders and Carol Fineman just announced that the 11-Time Tony Award-nominated musical, TOOTSIE, will launch a North American Tour at Shea’s Buffalo Theater in Fall 2020. This means, of course, that the show will also tech and rehearse in Buffalo. Casting, exact dates and additional cities will be announced at a later date. I saw the show this weekend and can attest to its superior score and book. Its Tony Award nominations are well-deserved. Other shows that have teched in Buffalo include "Finding Neverland," which brought Diane Paulus to Buffalo (not to mention the return of creepy Harvey Weinstein) and "On Our Feet," which brought Gloria and Emilio Estefan. "Mean Girls" is coming this fall.
In other Buffalo theater news, the 29th Annual Artie Award nominations will be live-streamed on Facebook by WBFO on Monday, May 20th at 12 p.m. Nicole Cimato will join me to read the nominees, and will provide Artie fashion updates on the "Buffalo Artie Red Carpet" Facebook page.
