General Auditions for 2026–2027 Season

American Repertory Theater of Western New York (ART/WNY) has announced general auditions for the company’s 2026–2027 season, to include two major productions: Tobacco Road in October 2026 and Die Dreigroschenoper in May 2027.
Auditions will be held on Monday, May 25, from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at Compass Performing Arts Factory, 545 Elmwood Avenue.
Originally adapted for the stage by Jack Kirkland from Erskine Caldwell’s novel, Tobacco Road is known for its stark depiction of a destitute family in rural Georgia during the Great Depression. The play ran on Broadway for a total of 3,182 performances between 1933 and 1941 making it the longest running Broadway play in history at that time. It is still Broadway's second longest running non-musical.
Die Dreigroschenoper (The Threepenny Opera), by Bertolt Brecht and Kurt Weill, will be presented in a new adaptation by Matthew LaChiusa and Billy Horn, reimagining the landmark work that blends social satire, criminal underworld intrigue, and an influential song score.
Auditioning actors are asked to prepare a 1–2-minute monologue. Performers wishing to be considered for vocal roles should also prepare 32 bars of music to be sung a cappella. Audition appointments will be scheduled in five-minute intervals.
To request an audition time, performers should text the following information to 716-339-2999:
